This is our sixth destination on our one day trip to Mysore, India on 15 November 2018.
St. Philomena’s Cathedral is located at Lourdes Nagar, Ashoka Road, Lashkar Mohalla, Mysuru, Karnataka 570001, India. It opens at 5am till 6pm.
With the fame of being one of the largest churches in India, this majestic church captivates everyone with its architectural excellence. It also boasts of being the second largest church in Asia. Dedicated to Saint Philomena, St. Philomena’s Church is not only known for its architectural beauty and religious significance; it stands as an exemplary of secular viewpoint and the religious harmony which existed in Mysore. This can be seen from the fact that this church was built by Mysore ruler for the European residents in the city.
Unfortunately, we are not lucky enough this time, we went there when the church is on renovation. So we didn’t go inside, we only saw from outside as there are lots of labour there. Actually they are just repainting again so that the church will always look good and keep in good condition.
From outisde, it looks tall and beautiful. There is Goa Maria also on the right side of this church (different building) but still in the same area. From behind there is long stairs to go up, and big door from behind (other side).
Here are pictures which we got from outside:
